Our garlic has been growing since May and two of the three varieties have developed beautiful bulbs which means they’re now ready to leave their winter homes and cure in the shed for a month or so. We are up to 500 bulbs which has been a real spirit lifter for us as we have never grown garlic on a large scale before.
We have learnt so much about growing a big crop of garlic and are really happy to see our preparation has paid off! Key learnings; planting depth is important, as is timing of planting, weeding needs to be consistent, keep the chickens out of the patch(!) and make sure the beds are well draining.
Next will come some preserving and we’re excited to try out some pickling recipes. Stay tuned for some further posts on that!
